This article explains how to view and interpret GPS location data for employees clocking in or out via VeriClock. Learn how to filter time blocks, view geofence violations, and manage GPS map settings to track employees' movements accurately.
GPS tracking is a feature that can be used to track employees while they are clocked in. Once an employee clocks out, all GPS tracking stops. Geofencing is another feature to put a fence around a physical address of a worksite.
View Employee GPS Location Map
To view GPS location data, go to the Time-->Activity tabs in your account from any internet browser accessible on your PC, mobile or tablet.
Select a Search Period and click Search, or click on Advanced Options to filter your search. Click on a clock in/out event to view GPS data for that event.
Filter For Specific Blocks Of Time
Below the map, click along the time bar to remove pin stamps off the GPS map. Both the start and stop points on the time bar can be moved. This can make it easier to limit pin stamps in the map view for blocks of time, to follow an employee’s path, and to view a location at a specific time. This also allows you to calculate the distance traveled between displayed pin stamps.
Geofence Violations
A geofence violation will display when an employee pings outside the geofence they have clocked into. To review your geofence settings, go to Settings>Location>Geofences>click the blue Edit button to the right of the geofence being reviewed. Geofence violations can occur when an employee clocks in or out from outside the geofence, an employee leaves the geofence, or if an employee is auto-clocked out for leaving the geofence. A geofence violation is indicated on the GPS map in which it occurred by a red fence over the geofence icon
If an employee is auto-clocked out by a geofence, the GPS map will indicate the employee was auto-clocked out below the clock out section.
GPS And Geofence Settings
The Activity page will display GPS information depending on your account GPS settings:
- GPS maps and GPS data cannot be displayed unless set up in your account first. See: Setup GPS Tracking.
- Continuous tracking pin stamps can only be displayed if enabled in an account before clock in/out occurs. See: Continuous Tracking.
- Continuous tracking requires specific App Location Permission Settings: Android Settings / iPhone Settings
- Geofence can only be displayed for the job that was clocked into.
- Geofence will need to be created with an address location and attached to an active job, before employees can clock into that geofence. See: Geofence Setup Video.
- Geofences are built for app clock in/out. The employee must clock in/out using the app on the same device.
- As VeriClock is continuously updating our features, older app versions may not display the same GPS data as the newest app version.
- The Request Current Location button below the GPS map can only be used while the employee is clocked in. Once the employee clocks out, new GPS location data is unavailable.
