Learn how to configure shift minimum rules in VeriClock to ensure employees are paid a guaranteed minimum number of hours per shift. This guide explains how to set minimums by employee, job, group, or service item, how conflicting rules are applied, and how minimum shift adjustments appear in reports and payroll exports.
Shift minimums can be used to pay out a minimum number of hours per clock event.
To setup shift minimum rules, go to Settings>Time>Time Adjustment>in the drop down, click on Shift Minimums.
Time entry minimum rules allow setting a minimum length of shifts based on employee, job, group, service item, or any combination of these. This is useful when a job or employee, for example, is guaranteed a minimum length shift. Time entries will show up in the activity view with the original start/stop times. At export, the minimums will be applied.
How Conflicting Rules Are Applied
When conflicting rules are created, they're applied to clock events based on conditions such as employee, group, job, or service items, following a specific order of operations.
- Job - If there are conflicting rules, any rule matching the job you clock into wins
- Service Item - If your clock in job doesn't have a minimum shift rule, any rule matching the service Item selected at clock in will be applied
- Employee - If neither the clock in job or service item has a minimum shift rule, the employee rule will be applied.
- Group - If there are no rules matching the clock in job, service item or employee, it defaults to any rules for the group.
Here is an example showing how conflicting minimum shift rules would be applied to clock events based an the rule set below:
These rules then apply to clock events following the order of operations:
